In Class...

Fellowship Night at Porters House

Happy Birthday

I would like to send a great big THANK YOU to everyone who made my 40th birthday so amazing!!!!!! We had a blast.....

Getting To Know You

We have had the opportunity to get to know several people in the church. It's important for the students to hear the stories of other church members to see what keeps people connected to OSUMC. Thank you to all of the people who have come to confirmation classes to share their stories.

Preparing for the Easter Sunrise Service

Haiti Video

I wanted to share this video with you. I made this after my first trip down to Haiti. My friend Meredith wrote this song "You're Not Alone" at a time in her life when she was struggling. Meredith also came to Haiti with me back in November and was very moved by the need. Perhaps this video will inspire you to join me on my next trip! (Parents that is......)

Finally, an update...

Please forgive me for my lack of updates over the past month. Between traveling to Boston and then right to Haiti, I let a few things slip off the priority list. I wanted to say a special thank you to Scott and Eric for leading the class while I was gone on April 28th.

We are getting down to the nitty gritty here. We only have three more official classes before Confirmation Sunday. We have several activities coming up in short amount of time. One thing I would like to point out immediately is that the lock-in which is currently showing on the confirmation calendar for the 22nd of May is being pushed back to the 29th. There are too many families who are taking advantage of the 3 day Memorial weekend. We really want as many of the kids to come to the final lock-in as possible. I realize that when working with 13 different schedules, I won't be able to pick a date that will work for everyone. Please see if you are able to free up the 29th for their final lock-in event.

Also please mark your calendar for another fellowship night which will take place Monday May 18th at Zack Smith's home. Thank you so much to the families who have been able to host these fantastic events. The kids have loved them and it has been an excellent way to keep them all connected. I know they will miss them once confirmation is over.

On May 23rd I would like to take any of the kids who are available on a field trip to visit a Hindu temple as well as touring or participating in a Greek Orthodox worship service. Can you please let me know your schedules for the 23rd so I can decide if we have enough available kids to make this happen. This would be our last field trip.

On May 24th Eric and I will be hosting a memorial day picnic at our home for all youth. This is not just the confirmation class, but we encourage everyone to attend as a way getting to know other youth in the church. We will provide all of the meat and drinks (Hot dogs and Hamburgers) We ask that the kids bring a side dish or dessert to share. Kids can be dropped off at 4pm and picked up at 8pm. We also encourage carpooling as we live about 35 minutes from the church. Please let me know if your kids will be able to participate in any or all of these events.

This Tuesday evening we will be getting to know our bibles better, so please remind your kids to bring their own personal bible with them. Many of them have been depending on the pew bibles which is fine, but knowing how to use your own bible at home is a valuable lesson. We will also be discussing world religions in next weeks class. We hope to give students a better understanding of the basic beliefs of other faiths.

Thank you again for being so supportive of this years confirmation program!

More than half over!

Dear parents and students,
I can hardly believe we are coming into week 13 out of 20. It was wonderful to hear the kids speaking of their positive experience in the program thus far. I would like to take an opportunity to thank the parents for working very hard to get the kids to field trips, fellowship nights, and class. There has been a lot going on, but every has had wonderful participation. Snacks have been a blessing. I show that Porter has snack this coming Tuesday and then I have the next 3 weeks open. If you have already brought snack twice, a third time is not necessary.

This weekend is Easter Sunday as we all know. For those confirmation students who are in town, the Easter Sunrise service has given the kids an opportunity to participate and run an entire worship service. The service begins at 7am. I know it is very early, but its a once a year event. This Tuesday we will be assigning kids their part in the worship service and practicing the entire time. If you child will not be participating in the service Sunday morning, it will not be necessary to come to class this Tuesday. Can you please let me know if you will be out of town or unable to participate. We encourage you to bring family to the worship service as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We send a great big thank you to the Blackford family for hosting the fellowship night this past Wednesday. We had a wonderful time. Walking tacos are the best! Our next fellowship night has been set for April 22nd at Porters house. I will be sending the map information as the date draws near.

The "youth" camera officially bit the dust this past week after a bad fall at the skating rink with Jr high kids. I was unable to take photos at the fellowship night or the past class. I will try to buy a new camera before this Tuesday in order to stay up with the blog.

Have a great week everyone!

Class # 8

Well there is not much to write about tonight as we watched the first half of the movie "Luther." We had a little surprise visit from Brianna Scharrer who was a 2008 confirmation alumni... Don't worry guys, I picked up all of the popcorn from the floor so I think we can still have more next week. The movie only gets better the 2nd half so be sure to come next week.

First Fellowship Night Photos at the Killian's Home

Everyone seemed to be having a great time! There was food, video games galore, and there was "Wally!" What could have been better?

So who would like to offer their home next? We can't wait....
