Tonight the journey officially begins. On our faith journey we do not travel alone. We have community walking with us and most important, God walks with us always. Tonight to illustrate this journey, we started the evening off with a “lifeline” trust walk. This trust walk followed a simple yellow spool of yarn through different areas of the church. Each person was blind folded and led through the trust walk by another. It was their responsibility to be sure their blind folded partner was neither harmed nor lost during the walk. The same could be compared to I own personal faith walk. There are most certainly highs, lows, challenges, unexpected turns and mountain top experiences. Our lifelines are all very different. What kinds of things form our lifelines as Christians? What do we use to guide us? How is this lifeline journey similar to our Confirmation journey? These are some of the questions we discussed in class tonight. Each of us drew our personal lifeline on paper and with one color symbolizing the highs and lows of our life journey up to this point. Some examples included the highs of being born to the lows of losing a loved one or dealing with specific tragedies. Then, with another color we drew the highs and lows of our faith journey. Some examples were the highs of our childhood “Jesus Loves Me” days and the lows of questioning who God really is when bad things happen in our lives. It was interesting to see how much of an impact our life experiences have on our belief system. It can certainly make us more sensitive to the struggles and questioning we see in one another. For our first night, we were thrilled with the level of honesty and discussion. Scott and I truly appreciate your cooperation and participation. We will see you next week!
